(incl. a BASIC DEMO for DOS). You may find these coefficients useful if you use or
develop your own software/hardware for oceanographic investigations
A MATLAB version has been developed by Carsten Eden (IfM Kiel)
An improved MATLAB version was created by Jan Reissmann (IOW)
(1.1 MByte MS Word File) has been submitted to Progress in Oceanography recently.
by McDougall, Jackett, Wright and Feistel.
The code is already implemented in MOM4 and NCAR models.
Source code is available here as:
large variety of thermodynamic properties of water, seawater, ice and sea ice.
You may find this program useful if you often need to know specific values like density,
entropy, or sound speed of seawater for given salinity, temperature and pressure.
There are computation bugs in 2 tables of the 1998
paper about sea ice properties. Here are the corrected
properties like grammar complexities, subword entropies, or surrogate statistics.
It can be used to study the information content of symbolic dynamics time series,
genetic DNA or protein sequences,or just usual ASCI text files.
based on GSHHS (Global Self-consistent Hierarchical High-resolution Shorelines) data.
Regional access speeds up drawing of world-wide high resolution polygons,
nested structures are required for land masking or rendering with tools like OpenGL .
GSHHS is a modified PC version of the files computed by Wessel & Smith .
GSHHS is self-consistent and can be used for drawing shorelines on its own.
RANGS is an access directory to GSHHS and can only be used together with GSHHS.
GSHHS and RANGS are available at different resolution levels. For more details see
RANGS.WPD (WordPerfect)
RANGS.PS (Postscript)
RANGS.HTM (converted to HTML, a bit rugged)
RANGS has been published in EOS , the Newspaper of the AGU, June 7, 1999.
For using RANGS, here is an example program in Visual Basic: RANGS.FRM
Still in VB, but using Win APIs to be faster and capable of filling is: FILL.FRM
A Java Demo program has been written by David Mikesell (University of Virginia)
