DYNAS - II
  Tasks Schedule
milestone plan

network of the planned activities in the second phase (DYNAS-II). The numbering proceeds the numbering of the first phase of DYNAS.

The figure presents the work schedule of the project. The task are ordered horizontally connected vertically by integrated and coordinated special activities. Here, expeditions/cruises marked by blue bars. Workshops will be held and the end of each working phase, characterised by a milestone.

Phase 1:

(month 1 - 16)

task 1:

continuation of experiments and field work for model parameterisation:

Sedimentology/ Biodeposition / Bioresuspension

- Investigation of the influence of benthic organisms onto resuspension, these species are characterised by creation of minimal biogene structures at the surface or, referring endofauna, through bioturbation destabilisation of sediments. The relation between bioturbation and physical/ sedimentological parameters will be described quantitatively.

- Investigation of particle dynamics in thze water column and near bottom boundary ("fluff").

task 2:

Monitoring at the test dumping site in order to obtain data for the model verification:

- sedimentological (grain size, mineral composition)

- bathymetrically (high resolution echo sounder: GKSS), characteristic of the sea floor (side scan sonar)

- benthosbiologically (re colonisation of the dumped material).

task 3:

model development/ parameterisation/ regionalisation

Advancing the geostatistical methods for:
- relation between benthosbiological and sedimentological parameters

- multivariate correlation structrure analysis of sedimentological/ benthosbiological/ oceanographical parameters

- extrapolation of target variables using proxies

Expansion of transport models through:
- description of fluff dynamics

- inclusion of benthosbiologically controlled suspended matter sources and sinks

Phase 2:

(month 17 - 21)

task 1:

numerical simulation

Sscenarios:
- increase of spatial resolution (upto 1 nm)

- modelling of transport paths depending on the material

- modelling of the "fluff" layer dynamics

- studies about the model sensitivity

- differentiate areas of erosion and accumulation depending on regional weather settings

Phase 3:

(month 22 - 24)

task 1:

synthesis

- composing the final reports, publications, maps and visualisation
